To conclude our unit on Goods and Services we transformed our classroom into a Skittles Factory. Students had to first advertise our product, determine factory hours, and apply for different jobs within the factory. We then set a temporary price range for our product, knowing that the price could possibly change due to changes in supply and demand. After everything was set up, students got to work, sorting and bagging skittles. Our bosses did a great job overseeing the process and being aware of their employer's needs. Our runners kept things moving slowly and our clean up crew made sure we met sanitation requirements! The managers of the factory (Ms. Ward and myself) were very pleased with the productivity of our workers, so much so that many received a bonus for exemplary work ethic on pay day. Once students cashed in their checks, they were able to purchase skittles of their choice!
