For Halloween each first grade class decided to paint pumpkins to look like our favorite book characters. First we read several books with our favorite character in them (we know that books with the same main characters are called a series) and used different clues from the author and illustrator to make a list of all character traits.

Students learned about different types of landforms and bodies of water on our unique Earth. We wrote opinion pieces on which landform we would most like to live and created several different representations of each type of landform.
Parents, students, and teachers alike enjoyed a night of family fun playing different games throughout the school. It was a great opportunity for fun, laughter, and friendly competition. It was also a great reminder to take a break from the craziness of our day to day lives to just...PLAY! Every year, the Cove City Fire Department visits our school to teach students about the importance of Fire Safety! Our class learned how to call 911 for help, how to stop-drop-and-roll, and all about the important (and heavy) gear firefighters have to wear. We also got to visit the smokehouse for a hands on experience of staying safe in the case of a house fire.We went on our first field trip of the year to downtown New Bern to see Pinnochio Jr. After the play we enjoyed a picnic lunch (and some play time) at a local park!
