To further our learning about NC habitats, we traveled to the coastal region! We visited the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium where we saw both fresh and saltwater habitats up close! We also took a picnic lunch at Fort Macon and had a chance to get our toes in the sand!
Thanks to a grant written by Mrs. B, we were able to observe and take care of caterpillars in our classroom again this year. Each student was given their own baby caterpillar to take care of throughout their life cycle. We observed our caterpillar's grow, form a chrysalis, and emerge as butterflies over the course of a few weeks. Before releasing our butterflies in nature, we released them in a big tent first and were given the chance to hang out with them outside. The whole process was a great learning opportunity for our students and a hands-on experience they are not likely to forget anytime soon! We celebrated the special women in our life with a delicious muffin breakfast and a few other special treats. Gaining inspiration from Laura Numeroff's If You Give a Moose a Muffin, we spent the morning testing our theories of what might just happen if you give a MOM a muffin.
