As you've probably heard, we've spent the past few weeks L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz as part of our "Winds of Change" ELA Unit. Students (and teachers alike) have absolutely loved reading this classic! We focused on different character traits throughout the book and how each character changed throughout the story. The Lion, for example, started out as a coward but found courage.
The First Grade teachers had fun dressing up as the characters from the story for Book Character Day!
This unit was also a great time to focus on a variety of literacy skills with a magical, Emerald City twist! Students had fun highlighting verbs, nouns, and adjectives in different Wizard of Oz sentences!
