Monday, March 2nd was Dr. Seuss's birthday which kicked off a fun-filled week full of reading and celebrating many influential authors! After learning about Dr. Seuss and reading several of his infamous silly-rhyming, tongue-twisting books, our class focused on another beloved author, Kevin Henkes.
Kevin Henkes has written many children's books using his recognizable mice characters. These funny little characters have quite the personalities and almost always teach us a valuable life lesson.
We hit a lot our literacy standards throughout the week as we read his books. We compared and contrasted different stories, discussed character traits, talked about theme, mood, and writing style.
A poster of our work was displayed around the library as part of our school wide Author Study Wall of Fame. We loved sharing things we learned about Kevin Henkes and seeing what other classes had learned about their chosen author as well.

While we had lots of "favorite parts" throughout the week, we definitely loved using the iPods and QR codes to listen to different Kevin Henkes books in Guided Reading.
We ended the week with a special reading, from a special visitor (Mrs. Dunn's dad!)
