As we've been learning about informational text and informative writing students were given an opportunity to complete a multi-step research project on their favorite animal. Mrs. Michener helped students check out non-fiction books from the school library for students to gather information about their animals' appearance, habitat, and diet. In class, students took the information they gathered to write an All About book. At home, students were asked to create a poster, model, or other physical representation to present and teach their classmates about their animal.
Not only is this a great project for students to learn about different animals and express their creativity through their class presentations, it was also a great way for students to gain hands-on experiences with non-fiction texts.
